Heel Pain and Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a relatively common condition, particularly in middle-aged women. Menopause and the associated decrease in estrogen levels play a crucial role in its development. In plantar fasciitis, the patient experiences intense heel pain while walking, due to inflammation at the site where the plantar fascia originates.

Main Causes Include:

  • Prolonged standing and excessive strain caused by unsuitable footwear that does not adequately support the arch
  • Age and gender, primarily affecting women aged 40 to 60
  • High arch (cavus foot) or low arch (flatfoot)
  • Tight calf muscles
  • Weak muscles in the foot, ankle, or calf
  • Excess body weight (obesity, pregnancy)
  • Diabetes
  • Overuse or injury

Prevention Tips

At PT PRAXIS®, we focus on preventing plantar fasciitis through proper diagnosis (foot scanning), personalized advice, and effective treatments such as exercises, orthotic insoles, and suitable footwear.

In general, plantar fasciitis can be prevented by avoiding extended periods of standing, refraining from excessive or inappropriate exercise beyond physical capabilities, choosing proper footwear and not walking barefoot or exercising without support.

As part of our consultation and treatment process, we perform a foot scan. Based on the findings, and if necessary, we provide guidance on suitable footwear and create custom orthotic insoles.
