The founders and heads of PT PRAXIS®, Fotini Lagari and Mimi Marcellou, possess in-depth academic and clinical knowledge of the Pelvic Floor and its dysfunctions. They recognize the importance of spreading this knowledge to all professionals whose fields involve the Pelvic Floor of both women and men, as well as its dysfunctions. Since 1998, they have been offering their services in Greece to the general public and to fellow physiotherapists, as well as other health and exercise professionals such as nurses, midwives, obstetricians, psychotherapists, trainers, gymnasts, gynaecologists/obstetricians, urogynaecologists, urologists, bowel surgeons, anaesthesiologists, breast surgeons, and oncologists.
Knowledge dissemination occurs through communication with the treating doctor, trainer, midwife, or multidisciplinary team working with a patient suffering from Pelvic Floor dysfunction. In addition, the clinic organizes seminars aimed at health professionals and exercise scientists to introduce them to the Pelvic Floor, and train them in recognizing, preventing, and rehabilitating Pelvic Floor dysfunctions through physiotherapy.
In 26 years of operation in Greece, PT PRAXIS has brought together Greek health professionals, internationally renowned scientists, and important figures, spreading knowledge about the Pelvic Floor, its dysfunctions, and ways to prevent and rehabilitate these issues to hundreds of people.
The Pelvic Floor should be included in the undergraduate physiotherapy curriculum
“Having dealt with numerous cases of Pelvic Floor dysfunction in both women and men, we are absolutely certain that knowledge of the Pelvic Floor, if provided to all physiotherapy students, would be life-saving for a range of individuals. This includes pregnant and lactating women, menopausal women, men who have undergone prostate surgery, women with gynecological and breast cancers, those with perineal trauma, people with persistent chronic constipation, children with constipation or bowel dysfunction, and many more conditions involving Pelvic Floor dysfunction, such as pain, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and sexual dysfunction.”
PT PRAXIS® continues to spread knowledge, targeting physiotherapists with basic understanding of the Pelvic Floor, and guiding them to develop clinical reasoning for optimal physiotherapeutic treatment of Pelvic Floor dysfunctions.
