Mimi Marcellou and Foteini Lagari Continue the Work of Spreading Knowledge on the Pelvic Floor “Not just at a physiotherapy seminar, but at no other educational event have I experienced such passion for sharing knowledge and expertise, such warmth, such love for the subject matter and for people—be they colleagues or patients.” This is how one of the 12 physiotherapists summarized the experience of the two-day Specialized Pelvic Floor Seminar for physiotherapists with foundational training in this area. The Seminar, organized by the heads of PT PRAXIS® in collaboration with Kinetics Health Education, took place on November 2 and 3 at the exemplary facilities of the “Theseus” Rehabilitation Center. It was attended by twelve physiotherapists with foundational Pelvic Floor training, who earned the internationally recognized certification of 14 CEUs. Mimi Marcellou and Foteini Lagari, heads of PT PRAXIS®, true to their commitment to disseminating scientific knowledge and decades of experience in the U.S. and Greece, held this seminar to advance the education of physiotherapists already trained in Pelvic Floor care.
How can we prevent Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause? It is a fact that the oncologist’s primary priority, along with their multidisciplinary team, is the effective treatment of a life-threatening malignant tumor in the breast or female reproductive organs. The oncologist determines the course of treatment, which may include the induction of early menopause if the patient is still menstruating. The Effects of Early Menopause or Genitourinary Syndrome The consequences of early menopause are well known to doctors, nurses, psychologists, and the entire multidisciplinary team supporting the patient. However, these effects are often underestimated, despite the certainty that they will affect the woman both during and after treatment, preventing her from enjoying life as she did before cancer. Among the symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) are: Recurring urinary tract infections Urgency and frequent urination Urinary incontinence Pain during urination Vaginal dryness, hypersensitivity, and irritation Reduced lubrication Inability to achieve orgasm or decreased libido Pain during sex (dyspareunia) Can We Prevent It? The answer is yes. Women should be clearly informed about the consequences of menstruation cessation and, in collaboration with a Pelvic Floor physiotherapist, start an appropriate preventive therapeutic protocol to avoid these painful and distressing symptoms.
