Foot Analysis - Orthotics

The foot analysis system offers to physical therapy a particularly valuable tool for the evaluation of musculoskeletal conditions such as pes planus (flat feet), pes cavus (high arch feet), overuse syndromes, inflammatory conditions (tendonitis, bursitis, plantar fascitis) or mechanical deviations of the foot (bunions, hammer toes, metatarsalgia) and spine pathologies such as scoliosis, kyphosis etc. It is a diagnostic device comprising of many sensors which records the forces and pressures applied to the foot when walking.

The valid evaluation of musculoskeletal conditions through FIT2FEET programm is performed by scientifically trained and experienced physical therapists, leading to the treatment of the initial symptoms and/or the condition as a whole.  The fabrication of orthotics, correct, support or relieve the lower extremities kinetic chain, resulting in maximum patient functionality and relief.

At the Physical Therapy PRAXIS clinic we conduct full body and lower extremity measurements, perform thorough evaluation assessments and we recommend the fabrication of orthotics in conjunction with a personalized exercise program to address each condition effectively as a whole.

Cause feet are "understanding"

The FIT2FEET program was established by Ms. Mimi Marcellou, who has extensive knowledge and experience in the science of foot biomechanics and the art of orthotic fabrication.

At the "Praxis Physical Therapy" clinic we collect data from the kinetic analysis of walking and in collaboration with podiatrists and specialised laboratorieswe construct specifically designed anatomic orthoticswith materials friendly to users.

Foot Analysis and Evaluation

Qualified physical therapists conduct assessments of static and dynamic movements of feet during standing and walking and their variants and identify the body’s support axis using a foot analysis system, an system device comprising of multiple sensors recording forces on feet when standing and walking.

In static analysis the foot analysis system can be used to assess body weight distribution, as well as mechanical pressures on the feet. In dynamic analysis, all 3 support phases such as heel strike, mid-foot phase and toe off are recorded and analysed, as well as maximum pressure and specific pressures in relation to time (in each step).

Recording and analysing walking with an electronic foot analysis system is a necessary tool for the evaluation and assessment of musculoskeletal conditions (flat feet, high arch feet and metatarsalgia due to derangement), overuse syndromes (tendinitis, bursitis) and mechanical diversions of the spine such as (scoliosis, kyphosis and like conditions, often related to pregnancy).

Treatment

At the "Physical Therapy PRAXIS" clinic, after evaluating the lower extremities and posture, we suggest the fabrication of orthotics to correct, support or stabilize the foot, thus achieving maximum body functionality. The base of support axis is reinstated within natural limits while joints and soft tissues are relieved.

In addition to the fabrication of orthotics, we design individualized therapeutic exercise programs to help treat conditions of the lower extremities and the musculoskeletal system.

Indications for conducting foot evaluation and fabrication of orthotics:

  • Flat feet - Rear foot pronation - Foot inversion
  • High arch/foot supination - Hammer toe
  • Heel spur - Plantar fasciitis
  • Bunion (Hallux Valgus)
  • Frequent sprains
  • Metatarsal pain, callus formation
  • Leg length discrepancy, scoliosis
  • Lower back pain/strain
  • Achilles tendinitis/tendinopathy
  • Rheumatoid conditions
  • Vocational and Sports Injuries
  • Foot, knee osteochondritis

Orthotics

The fabrication of orthotics is indicated for the correction, support and relief of the musculoskeletal system in children, adults and pregnant women and athletes of all levels.

Mrs. Mimi Marcellou has deep and extensive knowledge and experience in the area of foot and posture evaluation and the fabrication of orthotics. She collects required data as recorded and analysed by a foot analysis system tool and, in collaboration with a Podiatrist and  specialized laboratories, oversees the fabrication of special inserts made with friendly materials to individual users, to offer patients -adults and children- best solutions and relief for their conditions.
